On March 13, 2019, NCIRD’s Immunization Services Division (ISD) will host this year’s first Current Issues in Immunization webinar. Dr. Candice Robinson, a medical officer in ISD’s Communication and Education Branch, will give an update on the 2019 child/adolescent immunization schedule. Dr. David Kim, deputy associate director for adult immunization, will speak on the 2019 adult immunization schedule. A question and answer chat box will be available for questions. This year marks the 25th anniversary of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW). From April 27-May 4, 2019, NIIW will highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and will celebrate the achievements of immunization programs in promoting healthy communities through the United States.
In preparation for this important annual observance, our NIIW 2019 website will launch on February 13, 2019 and will contain a wealth of information and helpful resources to —
When the NIIW observance was established in 1994, immunization programs were facing significant challenges. The nation was in the midst of a serious measles outbreak and communities across the U.S. were seeing decreasing immunization rates among children.
As a global observance, NIIW in the United States joins those in countries around the world that celebrate the critical role vaccination plays in protecting the health of our children, families, and communities, as part of the World Immunization Week (April 27-30, 2019) initiative of the World Health Organization.
